Escort-sting trial puts heat on cops
An escort service operator was supposed to be the one on trial Monday — for robbery and battery and for attempted bribery of a public official, all on the same night last year. But it was a pair of Green Bay police detectives who took most of the heat in Brown County Circuit Court for their part in a sting on escort services that night. Monday’s jury trial for Lakema Coleman, 27 — accused in separate cases of robbing and beating one of her dancers, Lisa Morella, and of trying to bribing police with free strip shows on Oct. 2 — focused about as much on Green Bay police detectives Steve Scully and Christine Thiel. Defense lawyer Joseph Norby grilled the detectives, following on a theory that police set up a confrontation between Coleman and Morella in order to get a search warrant for Coleman’s place of business.
