Cape Town to debate red-light districts

Emotions are likely to run high this week when conservative Christians and the representatives of sex workers debate the possible introduction of red-light districts in Cape Town. The city's burgeoning sex industry reportedly includes about 60 agencies and hundreds of independent sex workers operating along most arterial suburban roads across the city. The City of Cape Town intends introducing legislation that will regulate how, where and when "adult" businesses operate. It is concerned only with a zoning policy. While brothels are illegal, many businesses operating as massage parlours or escort agencies are regarded as brothels by another name. Full Story...

Police Prepare Massive Sting Against Online Prostitution

The exploding number of online escort ads threatened to swamp anything vice squads could do, but now, police are planning a massive crackdown against online prostitution.

Police say many of those ads for escorts are really advertising prostitution.

In the past, prostitution stings were set up through print ads placed by police. But about a year ago, vice squads began to realize it would take more than print ads alone to help their cause.

Now, among those online ads that promise discreet companionship and sensual massage is an ad placed by the Kansas City police vice squad.

Sgt. Brad Dumit launched a coordinated effort to take out big chunks of the online sex trade. He convinced police departments from across the area to begin running a massive sting operation. Now, some 30 law enforcement agencies are preparing to participate. Full Story...

Sex Ed Isn't Just For Teens Anymore

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- Who says sex ed is just for teens? Certainly not the founder of a new adults-only institute for learning, "Erotic University." Jeff Booth says his new education center is meant to teach all the things high school sex ed couldn't, using in-the-buff demonstration models if necessary. The first class, a sold-out session on pole dancing, takes place this Saturday (May 24) in a downtown Los Angeles studio that's been the site of several porno movies. Full Story...

County manager fired over computer porn

DANBURY, N.C. (AP) - After a former county manager resigned, officials found he had spent 60 percent of his time downloading more than 27,000 pornographic photos onto his office computer. Last week's discovery caused Stokes County commissioners to reverse their decision to accept Craig Greer's April 28 resignation. They fired him instead and took back a negotiated $37,000 severance package. The cache was discovered by technicians after Greer resigned during a dispute with commissioners over the county's budget priorities. Full Story...

Priest 'asked prostitutes to dress as nuns'

Police say an Italian priest who asked prostitutes to dress as nuns was among the clients of a brothel raided by the vice squad. Officers refuse to name the priest, but say he was a regular customer of the high-class brothel which had dozens of women, including students and housewives, on its books. Police say Anna Maria Passarotto, 59, who ran the business, told officers the priest was a client after they found a nun's habit in the third floor flat. Full Story...

Politicians in Cologne are planning to put a sex tax on brothels and lapdancing clubs. Until now, they have escaped paying the same taxes as nightclubs and casinos. Barnes & Noble Sued Over Pornography Mix-Up

Barnes & Noble Booksellers Inc. is being sued by the family of a 12-year-old boy for a mix-up that left some copies of a skating magazine with a DVD featuring pornography. The boy was horrified when he played the DVD on a television and found that instead of skating, it depicted an "aggressive homosexual pornographic film," says the lawsuit filed Friday in 2nd District Court. Convicted ex-commisioner seeks money for appeals online

PITTSBURGH — A former county official convicted of running a prostitution ring out of her rural farmhouse has started a Web site, showing herself in scanty dress with leather boots, disputing the case against her and asking for money as she appeals. Susanne Teslovich, 57, of Smock, Fayette County, was convicted in December of running prostitution ring disguised as an escort service out of her home, about 40 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. She has remained free pending an appeal of her six- to 36-month sentence. On her Web site, www.madamofthecounty.com, Teslovich offers many of the same arguments she used during her trial — that she only ran an escort service and her employees initiated sex without her knowledge to make more money. The Bellevue woman’s application for an escort service license went before the city’s Protection and Welfare Committee earlier this month and was held up for more information. On Tuesday she was back before the committee seeking her license. In the end, the committee agreed to send the application to the full City Council without a recommendation. Full Story...

PayPal Stops Sex Merchandise Payments

It could soon be easier to buy adult videos at your local sex shop than through the Internet.

PayPal, a subsidiary of eBay Inc. that processes payments anywhere in cyberspace, will stop taking payments for most adult-themed merchandise over the next five weeks. Other electronic payment services, including Yahoo! and Visa USA, have also tightened restrictions on sexually explicit items.

That means people who want to buy sex toys or digital photos will have to send a check or money order or submit credit card information directly to the merchant — removing a layer of anonymity. Full Story...

Why Do Some Men Pay For Sex?

Until I began researching this article, I was of the opinion that any man who paid for sex was either a pervert or so homely looking that he couldn't get a piece of the proverbial pie for free. But then I thought, do guys ever really get sex for free? The simple answer is "no"; there's always some price to pay, no matter how big or small. But I digress. My inspiration for this article was a particular male friend of mine, Dave, who, as good-looking as he is, insists on seeing a particular escort every couple of weeks rather than finding himself a girlfriend to settle down and enjoy life with. Gory tale 'makes no difference'

A Bergenfield man's "confession" to a New York City tabloid that he killed an escort from Garfield and drank her blood will not affect the murder case against him, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said Wednesday. "It makes no difference to our case," Molinelli said, in response to a published story Wednesday in the Daily News that said Perry Cerf confessed in a letter to the newspaper and a subsequent jailhouse interview. "Our evidence is strong enough without the letter." Full Story...

Industry Asks: How Much Trouble Is Extreme In?

The April 8 raid of Extreme Associates by over 40 FBI agents, postal inspectors and IRS agents became the talk of the industry before the feds had even left the premises, with AVN fielding calls from all over the country asking for details of what went down, and especially inquiring about the content of the material seized. But with more federal anti-adult legislation pending in the U.S. House of Representatives, the question on everyone's mind is, "Is this the beginning of a nationwide crackdown on adult material, or is this somehow an isolated incident?"
